    The photograph is of a slab that can be raised or lowered at the entrance to the public garden at the Poetry Foundation building in Chicago. A British poet called Raworth has superimposed a couplet which links this hydraulic impediment to the living barrier recently encountered by Mr. Hass at UC Berkeley. And so on.
