Peyrafitte / Joris: Domopoetic Works

While Nicole Peyrafitte is perhaps best recognized for multimedia performance and Pierre Joris for his poetry and his work as a translator, this exhibition of individual works and collaborations presents the fullest measure of their art to date. This multidisciplinary and cross-genre exhibit features performance, installation, and retrospective of recent works across three traversable gallery levels. For the occasion of the exhibition, and to accent its synergetic elan, Editions Galerie Simoncini released their collaborative text The Book of U / Le livre des cormorans.
The first floor of the Simoncini gallery houses Peyrafitte's Action Paintings, which, in their creation, explore kinesthetic experience. The three opening days of the exhibition featured live performances, wherein Peyrafitte created new paintings while Joris read from The Book of U / Le livre des cormorans, which, in fact, is translated and illustrated by Peyrafitte. In addition to this collection of paintings, the second floor houses a selection of Peyrafitte's most recent mixed media visual art, including pastels on paper, carnets, and assemblages.
This confluence of individuated yet imbricated work is mirrored as well in the "Domopoetic Zone" located on the basement floor, where one will find an installation of Joris' literary universe. Peyrafitte collects and displays the complete set of his publications, which impressively includes some sixty books and chapbooks published over the span of nearly fifty years. Juxtaposed to these volumes of poetry, essays, and translations are the artworks created by Peyrafitte for a number of the books, as well as twelve original videos on Joris' life and work. Two armchairs invite the visitors to sit down and peruse a second set of Joris' books and/or watch Peyrafitte's videos.
Peyrafitte / Joris: Domopoetic Works will run until 26/11/2017. There will be a finissage of the Action Painting performances on 25/11/2017.
